Netizens petition to remove Netflix film depicting Jesus as gay man

Netizens, mostly Christians, are not having it.

An online petition to remove a “blasphemous film” from Netflix was launched after it received immense backlash from Brazilian netizens over its satirical depictions from the Bible.

As of today, the change.org petition has garnered more than 2.2 million signatures.

The movie The First Temptation of Christ released earlier this December, is described as a “satire Christmas special” by Brazil-based comedy group Porta dos Fundos or Back Door.

The synopsis reads: “Jesus, who’s turning 30, brings a surprise guest to meet the family. A Christmas special so wrong.”

The guest turns out to be a man named Orlando, who appears to have a “more than friends” relationship with Jesus.

Some netizens have claimed that the movie “seriously offends” Christians for portraying Jesus as a gay man, and for showing another scene where Virgin Mary is seen smoking weed.

“This is going too far, I’m all for freedom of speech, insulting the belief of over 2 billion people, enough is enough. You wouldn’t do this to the Islamic religion. Christianity needs to stop being the free game of every media outlet,” explained one netizen as to why he signed the petition.

Others even canceled their subscription from the streaming giant, not until the 46-minute film will be removed.

As of writing, the film is also available to Filipino subscribers of the streaming service.
