K-pop powerhouse TWICE will be taking a temporary break from group activities following the successful conclusion of their “THIS IS FOR” world tour.
The nine-member girl group recently wrapped up the nearly year-long tour with a three-day finale in Seoul, South Korea, capping off an impressive 81-stop global tour that brought the group to fans, fondly known as ONCE, around the world.
The announcement came during Jihyo’s recent interview with Forbes, where she reflected on her career as TWICE’s leader, her solo acts, and the group’s plans after months of nonstop activities.
While promoting her latest collaboration, “Distant Lover,” with Grammy-nominated Jamaican artist Shenseea, Jihyo shared that she remains focused on the tour’s conclusion, adding that her upcoming projects are still “confidential.”
She also confirmed that TWICE will be taking a “nice — and well-deserved — break” after spending nearly a year on the road while also releasing new music in between.
“For the past 11 years, as TWICE and as a solo artist, we barely had any breaks, so I want to spend the rest of this year relaxing and taking a bit of a break,” Jihyo told Forbes. “This break is really something we need in order to work better in the future, so I hope our fans understand.”
The singer reassured fans that the hiatus would only be temporary and is intended to allow the members to rest and recharge before returning with new music and activities.
Despite the group’s break, Jihyo hinted that she remains open to individual collaborations.
“When it comes to collaborative work like this, they already have the song ready for me. They have the song’s concept, so it’s not really hard to participate and collaborate with other artists. So, if anything comes up, give me a call,” she said.
TWICE debuted in 2015 through the survival show “Sixteen.” Since then, the group, composed of Nayeon, Jeongyeon, Momo, Sana, Jihyo, Mina, Dahyun, Chaeyoung, and Tzuyu, has become one of K-pop’s biggest global acts, releasing chart-topping hits such as “Cheer Up,” “What Is Love?,” “FANCY,” “The Feels,” “YES or YES,” and “Strategy.”
Beyond their group promotions, the members have also pursued solo music and acting projects. Sana, for instance, is set to make her acting debut in an upcoming Korea-Japan co-produced film, where she will star alongside Japanese actor Takeru Satoh.
