Bumida ang Pinoy filmmakers at actors sa ginaganap na 32nd Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF).
Sa 181 na pelikula na for exhibition ng TIFF ngayong taon, walong production ang mula sa Pilipinas. Pinangunahan nina Bela Padilla, Mara Lopez, Pinky Amador at JC Santos ang Philippine delegation sa TIFF sa procession ng filmmakers at mga artista noong Oktubre 28, Lunes.
Sina Bela at director Paul Soriano ang nag-represent para sa World Premiere ng Mañanita sa Main Competition ng nasabing international filmfest.
Pinagbibidahan naman nina Lopez at Amador ang The Halt (Ang Hupa) na dinirek ni Lav Diaz. Samantala, kasama ni Santos sa pag-represent ng Motel Acacia ang director na si Bradley Liew, producer na si Bianca Balbuena, at production designer na si Ben Padero.
“What a night for Philippine cinema,” banggit pa ni Padero sa kanyang Instagram account.
Ang iba pang representatives ng Pilipinas sa TIFF 2019 ay ang writer-director na si Antoinette Jadaone, Dan Villegas at Carlo Cannu para sa Six Degrees of Separation from Lilia Cuntapay.
Ang direktor naman na si Sigrid Andrea Bernardo at cinematographer na si Boy Yñiguez ang kumatawan sa pelikulang Untrue.
Ang bumuo sa walong Philippine productions sa TIFF 2019 ay ang Mindanao ni Brillante Mendoza; Food Lore Series – Island of Dreams at The Entity (Kuwaresma) ni Erik Matti. Ang actor na si Kent Gonzales ang nag-represent sa cast ng The Entity.
Ngayong taon, kabilang sa mga rumampa sa TIFF Red Carpet and Opening Ceremony ang Hollywood stars na sina Alicia Vikander at Zhang Ziyi. Co-stars sina Vikander at ang Japanese actor na si Naoki Kobayashi sa thriller movie na Earthquake Bird.
Ang iba pang kasama ni Ziyi sa Competition Jury ay ang actor-producer na si Julie Gayet, producer na si Bill Gerber at directors na sina Ryuichi Hiroki at Michael Noer.
Ang TIFF 2019 ay nag-umpisa noong Oktubre 28 at magtatapos November 5. Samantala, isa ang Mañanita actress na si Bela Padilla sa nag-enjoy sa pagrampa sa TIFF. Unang lumahok si Bela sa Tokyo Filmfest noong 2016 para sa I America na dinirek ni Ivan Andrew Payawal, na siyang nag-compete sa Asian Future category.
“The red carpet event last night was different than the first time. I was nervous, but at the same time, super calm. Maybe because we’re here already at terms I didn’t expect at all,” sabi ni Bela.
