BGYO says friendship with BINI remains despite fan criticism

P-pop boy group BGYO has spoken up about the criticism surrounding their association with sister group BINI, saying they understand that not everyone will agree with or support their friendship.

Members Gelo, Akira, Nate, and JL opened up about the issue during an exclusive interview with Boy Abunda on Fast Talk with Boy Abunda, where they also discussed past controversies, online criticism, and the status of their legal complaint against online bashers.

Asked about fans who oppose any connection between BGYO and BINI, member JL said they respect everyone’s opinions but stressed that the two groups remain supportive of each other.

“Kanya-kanya naman po ‘yan ng opinyon. Hindi naman namin mapi-please lahat na gusto nila kaming mapagsama,” JL said.

He added that their friendship with BINI goes back years before either group debuted.

“Pero kami ng BINI, talagang sinusuportahan po namin bawat isa and talagang magkakaibigan po kami kasi magkakasama po kami mag-training since Day 1.”

The question comes after both groups became the subject of heated online discussions in past years.

In 2024, BGYO faced allegations regarding its members’ alleged problematic behavior, prompting the hashtags #DisbandBGYO and #BGYOOut to trend on X. The controversy intensified after a video of several BINI members dancing to their hit song “Pantropiko” at what was alleged to be a BGYO member’s birthday celebration circulated online.

The clip divided fans, with some opposing any public association between the two groups while others defended their long-standing friendship.

During the interview, Abunda also asked JL directly if he had ever developed romantic feelings for BINI member Maloi.

Caught off guard by the question, JL laughed before replying:”Friends po kami ni Maloi.”

Despite the controversies, BGYO emphasized that they continue to cheer for BINI’s success. The members said they are “very proud” of the girl group and believe their achievements are “deserved.”

BGYO also addressed the frequent fan wars on social media, particularly on X. Akira admitted that the members are aware of the online conflicts and often discuss them among themselves.

“Kapag may nababasa po kaming mga away sa X, napaguusapan din po namin na ‘bakit, anong nangyayari?’ Chinecheck din po namin yung pinanggagalingan pero nagiging optimistic na lang po kami na parang ‘huhupa rin ‘yan.'”

He added that whenever misinformation spreads, the members try to use their own platforms to correct false claims.

“If medyo lumala may kanya-kanya kaming platforms na pwede naming gamitin to tell them truth or kung ano mang pinapakalat na fake news, to tell them na hindi totoo ‘yung mga nababalitaan n’yo.”

The group likewise provided an update on the legal complaint they filed in 2024 against individuals allegedly responsible for spreading malicious fake news and online harassment.

According to the members and their management, the case has already reached the court, although they acknowledged that legal proceedings take time.

“It’s a long process na we’re handling it carefully,” Gelo said.
