Crash Landing On You stars Hyun Bin and Son Ye Jin were together again at this year’s Baeksang Arts Awards, also known as the Oscars of Korea.
The stars, dubbed by fans as RiRi couple after their characters Captain Ri and Se-Ri in the rom-com series, received top acting nominations at the annual awards event held Friday at Ilsan, Gyeonggi Province.
Hyun Bin and Son Ye Jin, however, lost out to Kang Ha Neul (Best Actor for When the Camellia Blooms) and Kim Hee Ae (Best Actress for The World of the Married).
They appeared to have won the hearts of viewers though after they got the TikTok popularity award which was determined by fan votes.
Still, the biggest winner could be the fans who were happy to see RiRi or BinJin together again after their series ended last February as one of the highest-rated cable K-dramas ever.
Never mind if they were “social distancing” in what could be the “new normal” in award shows.
During their appearance, BinJin shippers had a fun time keeping tabs of every movement and gesture made by the onscreen couple, who had been romantically linked in real life a couple of times, but swiftly denied by their respective camps each time.
Some netizens also translated their acceptance speeches into English, where they both expressed their gratitude to their international fans.
They again thanked their fans in a separate message sent via TikTok.
Son Yen Jin said, “On social media, you were voting and uploading proof shots. You’ve worked so hard and I’ve seen all that. That’s why I’m so touched. I thought, ‘Ah… so you love us this much. I’m so happy every single day. Finally today, all of your hard work shined so I thank you so much once again!”
Hyun Bin added, “I’ve already said this earlier during my award’s speech but what we can repay you is not that much. I feel like I’m greeting you with a piece of work with a burden. So I work hard to greet you all with various projects.”
Their chemistry on Crash Landing On You South endeared the actors even to fans from overseas, including the Philippines. It consistently ranked first on Netflix’s daily Top 10 list of most-watched content among Filipino subscribers even weeks after the K-drama came to an end.
In CLOY, Korean billionaire heiress Yoon Se Ri (Son Ye Jin) gets caught in a hurricane while paragliding and literally crash-lands into the arms of North Korean army captain Ri Jeong Hyuk (Hyun Bin). From wary strangers, the two end up falling and fighting for each other.
