Movies topbilled by Kapamilya stars are among the first four official entries to this year’s Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF).
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) announced on Friday that the entries approved based on screenplay are Vice Ganda’s Praybeyt Benjamin 3, Toni and Alex Gonzaga’s The Exorcism of My Sizsums and Joshua Garcia’s Ang Mga Kaibigan ni Mama Susan. Completing the list is Magikland which was co-produced by the legendary filmmaker Peque Gallaga before he passed away.
Barring any issues the current health crisis could cause, the annual MMFF is expected to open, as in previous years, on Christmas Day, Dec. 25.
A sister festival of the MMFF, the Metro Manila Summer Film Festival, was supposed to have its first edition last April, but has been postponed indefinitely due to the country-wide quarantine imposed to stem the spread of COVID-19.
According to the MMFF executive committee spokesperson Noel Ferrer in a Facebook post, “The Summer MMFF 2020 entries will have an official slot for the Summer MMFF 2021, but they will lose that reserved slot should they want to take their chance and be part of the selection for the finished film submission for the Christmas MMFF 2020 with these deadlines: October 2 – Early Bird and October 15 – Regular Submission.”
