President Rodrigo Duterte and actress Angel Locsin topped global public opinion and data company YouGov’s 2020 list of most admired men and women in the Philippines.
According to the London-based group’s annual survey, Duterte was given a score of 19.67 percent while Locsin scored a 15.03 percent.
The Filipinos included in the Top 10 of the list are former Miss Universe Catriona Gray, pop star Sarah Geronimo, actress Liza Soberano, boxing champ-turned-senator Manny Pacquaio and Manila Mayor Isko Moreno. Vice President Leni Robredo landed the 15th spot in the women’s list.
Meanwhile, former US President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama are the most admired man and woman in the world, according to YouGov’s poll results released on September 23.
The group said they compiled the list by gathering open-ended nominations from panelists across 42 countries and territories. They were simply asked: “Thinking about people alive in the world today, which [man or woman] do you most admire?”
The nominations were then used to compose a list of 20 men and women who were named the most in at least four countries.
Since the first wave of fieldwork back in January to March was done before the peak of the coronavirus pandemic, the company wrote the disclaimer that “some figures associated with leading national efforts to counter the disease did not make it on to the national admiration lists.”
According to their website, their second wave of fieldwork used the lists gathered from the first wave. The panelists were asked two questions: “Who do you truly admire?” and “Who do you most admire?”
“All of the surveys were conducted online, and in many of the countries the internet penetration is low to the point where the sample can be only said to be representative to the online population. The countries and territories where this applies are China (including Hong Kong), Egypt, Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, the Philippines and Vietnam,” they explained in their methodology.
In 2019, Duterte and Locsin topped the same poll from YouGov.
