Melissa Ricks opens up on how she found love after ‘feeling hopeless’

Actress Melissa Ricks is now engaged to her non-showbiz boyfriend Michael Matangcay.

On her Instagram account, the 24/7 star penned her love story with her husband-to-be.

Before meeting Michael, she revealed that she felt like her life was falling apart.

“I was feeling hopeless. I didn’t have as much money as I did before, I was a single mom, I was alone, I didn’t have work and I was scared,” she said.

Melissa recounted how this dark time in her life pushed her to build her relationship with God.

“He was my rock. It’s true, rock bottom is where you rebuild your life, where God will rebuild your life. Sometimes God mixes up your plans, tests your faith,” she said.

According to her, this newfound relationship with God led her to Jesus the Anointed One Church in Rosario, Batangas.

During one of her visits there, she asked God for someone who would love her and her daughter. She even prayed to meet this person at the same church.

“A few months later, I walk into church, like I did every Sunday along with Kiera, and I sat in front row… right next to Michael,” she wrote.

Two years after, Michael popped the big question in Rosario, Batangas, where they found each other.

My Love Story: “Your best days are still ahead of you” this is what Direk Paolo Tesico a friend from church told me.. Somehow this made me cry, I held on to that. That was 2 years ago, When I felt like everything was falling apart. I was feeling hopeless I didnt have as much money as I did before, I was a single mom, I was alone, I didnt have work and I was scared, That was when I turned to God, I knew that hindi niya ako papabayaan, hindi niya kami ni Kiera papabayaan, He was the one I could rely on.. He was my rock. Its true, rock bottom is where you rebuild your life, Where God will rebuild your life. Sometimes God mixes up your plans, tests your faith. This led me to Jesus the Anointed One Church in Rosario, Batangas. Yes, that is 2 1/2 hrs away from where I live, but I made it a point to attended Sunday services there when I could, because there, somehow it felt like I was home, it felt right, I felt safe, I didnt feel judged, I felt like my worries were taken away, and I felt like I had a family there. The first time I walked into the church I said a little prayer “Lord, I surrender, what ever plans you have for me, I accept, if it is meant that I will raise kiera on my own I accept, I leave it all in your hands”. As my relationship with the Lord started to grow, I learned to talk to God as if he was a friend. In a separate prayer on one of my visits, nag baka sakali lng ako, actually it was more like a thought, “Lord, baka naman po may ma meet ako dito, un alam and sakit, un napagdaanan na ang lahat, un masipag, un mabait, mahal ako and mahal anak ko,but most of all may takot sa diyos. Sana po may makatabi ko” I smiled thinking as i prayed. A few months later, I walk into church, like I did every Sunday along with Kiera, and I sat in the front row.. right next to Michael.❤️ • •I would like to thank @niceprintphoto for always being part of all the milestones in my life and capturing moments that we will treasure forever. • Thank you @gideonhermosa for going all the way to Batangas to make this occasion not only special one but a beautiful one too with all the beautiful flowers and candles, Im super kilig and I am truly thankful🙏

Melissa also posted a close-up photo of her beautiful engagement ring and a video showing how her special day went.

In the engagement video, Michael shared his side of their love story, from when they were first introduced by church pastors to how he secretly planned the proposal.

“Nagkaroon ng pandemic so na realize ko na I really need to propose because we are living in a sin kasi dinala ko si Melissa dito sa bahay namin. Kahit isipin nila na wala kaming ginagawang masama, magkasama naman kami,” he said.

He had long wanted to ask Melissa to marry him but then COVID-19 happened. “Matagal ko ng plano mag-propose kay Melissa. Bago mag-pandemic, nagka-canvass na ako ng mga engagement ring so with the help of our friends, binuo namin ito. Na-cancel pa because kasi nag MECQ ang Manila.”

Melissa, on the other hand, couldn’t help but turn emotional over the efforts of her now-fiancé.

She said, “Si Michael kahit hindi siya sweet, nag effort siya maging sweet para sa akin, para sa araw na ito. Very thankful and blessed ako that God placed him in my life at a time na hindi ko talaga akalain na I would fall in love again pa dahil talagang sinuko ko na kay Lord. Sabi ko, Lord ikaw na ang bahala sa akin. And God gave me Michael.”
