Veteran singer Lani Misalucha revealed that she is already deaf in her right ear due to a deadly bacterial infection that even sent her and husband to the ICU.
“Medyo bingi, hindi pala medyo. Bingi po talaga ang nangyari sa akin, dito sa right side ko, kaming mag-asawa. Meron po kaming vestibular dysfunction kaya po kailangan namin ng alalay lagi,” she shared.
The Asia’s Nightingale made the revelation during her appearance in the Christmas special of singing competition show The Clash where she was a previous judge.
Pops Fernandez took over Lani’s place following her two months of absence in the show.
She couldn’t help but get emotional as she looked back on her health ordeal.
“Na-miss ko ang The Clash, na-miss ko mag-work, na-miss ko kayo because you know you’ve also been good to me and very, very wonderful,” she said.
“Nagpapasalamat ako sa Panginoong Diyos dahil buhay ako, buhay kaming mag-asawa.
“Maraming salamat sa lahat ng kaibigan, pamilya ko and supporters ko, they’ve been praying for me and I know that and I’m very, very grateful for that.”
She clarified that they didn’t contract COVID-19 contrary to what others thought. “Sa lahat po sa inyo, ‘wag po kayo mag-aalala, hindi po ako nagkasakit ng akala niyo COVID. Hindi po. Ang nangyari po sa akin ay mas matindi sa COVID.”
Lani and her husband Noli suffered from bacterial meningitis, which is “an inflammation of the fluid and membranes (meninges) surrounding your brain and spinal cord,” according to American medical center Mayo Clinic.
Early in October, the two were rushed to the ICU after feeling unwell, body pains and pounding headache.
The 51-year-old singer went on to share that until now they continue to experience dizziness and have “muffled and high-pitched” hearing.
Lani also admitted she felt “helpless and hopeless” because of the infection, but is still searching for ways on how it could be treated.
“Hindi ko pa rin talaga ma-absorb na ito ‘yung nangyari,” she said.
“Paano to? Singer ako, kailangan ko ang pandinig ko. Parang sinabi ko na lang sa sarili ko, ‘Okay, singing may not be for me anymore…I don’t know.”
