A local convenience store chain has threatened legal action against anyone who intentionally tampers with its products following a viral video of a woman licking a hot dog and returning it to a food display.
The video initially circulated on TikTok and appeared to have been originally shared through an Instagram Story. It carried the caption, “Happy Birthday, Nene.”
In the clip, a woman was seen taking a hot dog from a food display, licking it, and then returning it to the display before replacing it with a new one.
The incident drew strong reactions from netizens, with the video garnering around 1.5 million views on TikTok.
TikTok user @suuekllaa_1, who uploaded the video, described the act as “disappointing and disturbing.”
“Wala bang kahit kaunting hiya o respeto sa sarili at sa pagkain?!!” the user wrote.
“Hindi naman masamang magsaya, pero sana naman matuto tayong magkaroon ng boundaries at consideration. Not everything has to be turned into a joke, content, or source of entertainment, especially when it comes at the expense of something as essential as food,” the user added.
On Wednesday, Sept. 2, the convenience store chain issued a statement posted on its official Facebook page, reiterating its commitment to food safety and sanitation.
The post included advisories reminding customers about maintaining clean and safe stores. It also stressed that intentional tampering with food or drinks is a serious public health violation and warned that those responsible could face legal action.
“Any food or drink that is improperly handled will be disposed of immediately. Intentional tampering is a direct violation of public health, and we will pursue full legal action against anyone putting our community or staff at risk,” the company said.
“Help us keep our stores clean, safe, and secure for every Kapitbahay. Report any suspicious behavior to our staff immediately,” it added.
The company did not identify the individual or the store branch that appeared in the viral video. As of writing, it has yet to provide further details on whether legal proceedings have already been initiated.
