Actress-host Anne Curtis graced the recently held GMA Gala 2023 clad in an Audrey Hepburn-inspired look and a white dress that, according to netizens, looked familiar and similar to a local food ingredient.
Anne and fellow hosts of Kapamilya noontime show It’s Showtime including Vice Ganda, Vhong Navarro, and Jhong Hilario joined other Kapuso celebrities at the event held at the Marriott Hotel in Pasay City, last Saturday, July 22.
The theme for this year’s GMA Gala Night was “elegant formal” and it was only natural for Anne to walk the red carpet exuding vintage elegance wearing a white Yves Saint Laurent dress and microbangs that resembled old Hollywood icon Audrey Hepburn.
Anne was praised by netizens not only for her timeless glam but also became a hot topic for wearing an outfit that resembled a lumpia wrapper.
Online users shared laughs at another netizen’s take on the Kapamilya actress’s outfit in a Twitter post comparing her dress side by side with raw shanghai rolls.
“Hindi ko talaga matanggap ‘yung suot ni Ms. @annecurtissmith sa #GMAGala2023. Mukhang shanghai na hindi pa napiprito. Here’s the comparison to prove my point. Pero ang ganda mo pa rin po, Ms. Anne. Loveyouuu! ??? #ShowtimeOnGMAGala2023,” Twitter user @kenquenito wrote in the caption.
A Tiktok user even applied a voice-over of a chef Tiktoker saying, “What happens if we transform pizza with lumpia wrapper?” to the comparison photo of Anne and uncooked shanghai rolls.
Meanwhile, it seemed that the “lumpia wrapper” memes reached Anne who only took them playfully.
In a Facebook upload posted by Vice Ganda, the comedian bickered with his bestie in front of a mirror. Both seemed to have changed from their elegant attire.
“Mas maganda ako sayo pag malayo, pag malabo, no,” Vice told his co-host.
“Here, have some lumpia,” Anne jokingly replied, handing over the folded white gown she wore at the Kapuso gala event.
In a recent episode of It’s Showtime, Vice also made a comedic remark on Anne’s red carpet look.
“Wala siyang mahanap na outift. Ang nahanap niya lumpia,” the comedian teased.
To which Anne responded: “Yes pero at least fresh! Fresh lumpia.”
“Mamahaling lumpia ka,” Vhong added.
