Who said only Gen Zs and millennials are the only ones who are up for the “index card” challenge on TikTok?
A daughter from Cebu was the mastermind behind her father’s surprise to her mom for their silver wedding anniversary on January 5, 2023.
“Kami ni Daddy po ‘yong nag-plan. Si Mommy ‘yong walang alam. So pinakita ko po sa kanya ‘yong mga TikToks nung mga couples na gumagawa nun. In a world na ang daming failed relationships, gusto ko maging inspiration po ‘yong parents ko. ‘Yong relationship nila, ‘yong marriage nila na may true love talaga and it can really last,” Dorothy Perez told The Philippine STAR.
Daddy Dawny immediately liked Dorothy’s idea. He then created the props to surprise his wife, Janet.
“[Sabi ko] kaya ko ‘yan. Madali lang, papel lang eh. Wala masyadong trabaho. Kasi hindi nga ako ma-surprise. I don’t like surprises. Asawa ko ang gustong-gusto ng surprises. Alam ko na ‘pag hindi ko siya sinurprise, naku!” he recalled.
In the video, Mommy Janet can be seen enjoying the activities she chose from the index cards.
“I really enjoyed kasi ‘yong shopping spree ni hubby talagang he really made me feel special that day,” Mommy Janet said.
“Hindi po ma-surprise si Daddy so gulat na gulat po si Mommy na nag-eeffort or like ginagawa ni Daddy ‘yong mga video,” Dorothy added.
Mommy Janet thought that it was Daddy Dawny’s only surprise to her.
“Nung blinindfold na ako, sa car pa lang. I have no idea kung saan kami pupunta.Ang talagang nasa isip ko intimate dinner with my husband,” she said.
Apparently, there was a bigger surprise to mark their 25th wedding anniversary —a reaffirmation of vows. Their family, friends and churchmates also attended the ceremony at a hotel in Cebu.
“So ‘yong time na I really had no idea at all kasi nagplano na ako with my church friends na we’re going to celebrate it February 5 na lang, after one month. Ngayon, ‘yong mga friends ko na sinabihan ko about it, ayun pala they were coordinating with Dawny and my daughter. So grabe talaga I was really shocked when I saw my friends there na “Ano ba yan? Diba dapat February 5 pa?” Mommy Janet shared.
“It’s a grand surprise for me. Talagang, napa-wow po ako. Feeling heaven talaga ‘yong pakiramdam ko that day,” she added.
Looking back on their marriage 25 years ago, the couple said that they’re thankful that they have a partner in good times and in bad times.
“25 years is very, very long. One of the things na na-re-remember ko right now is that it is a growing relationship. We work hard for this marriage to work. That’s why I am enjoying this marriage with this guy because God-given talaga siya,” the couple noted.
Mommy Janet also shared an advice to young individuals who are waiting for the “one.”
“Maniwala kayo. Ma-hurt kayo pero merong makaka-heal sa’tin. So believe para sa mga young people. Meron talagang dinesign si Lord na para sa inyo. So itong katabi ko, dinesign ‘to para sa’kin lang,” she said.
“Enjoy life, trust God in every season of your lives. At darating din ‘yong para sa inyo, you just have to trust God and wait,” she added.
The uploaded video has already garnered more than 2.3 million views on TikTok.
“Natutuwa po ako sa mga comments sa TikTok na parang naiinspire po sila, na parang they’re gonna do their best to be this person for their significant others. So parang wow, parang because everyone is believing in this kind of love so it can happen,” Dorothy said.
