Jorginho Frello clarifies Chappell Roan not involved in ‘upsetting’ bodyguard incident with footballer’s daughter

Queer artist Chappell Roan has been cleared of involvement in an alleged “rude” incident involving the 11-year-old daughter of footballer Jorginho Frello, following a new statement from the athlete clarifying the situation.

The controversy began in March after Jorginho claimed that his daughter was left in tears following an encounter at a hotel in São Paulo, where both his family and Roan were staying during Lollapalooza Brasil 2026.

He alleged that after his daughter, a fan of Chappell, walked by the singer’s table, a “large security guard” approached their table while they were dining and spoke in an “extremely aggressive manner,” warning his wife not to allow their daughter to “disrespect or harass other people.”

The guard also threatened to file a report with the hotel, leaving the young girl distressed.

In a recent statement, however, Jorginho clarified that Roan had no involvement in the incident. He admitted his earlier reaction came “in the heat of the moment” after learning about what had happened to his family.

“I reacted as any father would. My priority is, and always will be, protecting my family, and that is exactly what I did,” the football star wrote.

“Since then, I have become aware of new information that has changed my understanding of parts of what happened,” Jorginho said. “It became clear that she had no knowledge of what took place at breakfast and had not asked anyone to approach them.”

Jorginho also revealed that Roan had issued a public statement, reached out privately to his partner, and that their respective teams had communicated directly. He described the singer as “understanding and sympathetic” regarding the situation.

“It was, ultimately, a misunderstanding in that respect, and I am glad to set the record straight. It’s important to me that this is clarified fairly and accurately. I regret the impact this situation has had on Chappell Roan, Catherine, Ada, and our family,” he added.

Further clarification came after the security guard involved confirmed he was representing a different artist at the hotel at the time, and was not acting on Roan’s behalf.

“While we still do not know what prompted him to approach them… it is now clear that he was not acting on behalf of Chappell,” Jorginho added, calling the situation a “misunderstanding.”

The footballer expressed regret over the impact of the incident on all parties involved, including Roan and his own family, and emphasized that he does not condone online hate or attacks.

“I do not support or encourage hate speech or online attacks from any side. Respect, empathy, and humility are values I carry and teach my family every single day”, his statement concluded. “As far as I am concerned, this matter is closed.”
