It was an emotional night for Aga Muhlach and his son Andres as they shared the stage during the opening night of Bagets: The Musical.
“I’m a bit emotional. Who would have thought that after my first movie, my son will be doing it 40-plus years later. I’m very happy that this is happening,” Aga told The Philippine STAR.
The father and son hugged onstage as members of the original 1984 Bagets film cast, including Yayo Aguila and Chanda Romero, joined the musical’s cast during the opening show on Friday, January 23.
“I really don’t know how to say it right now. Parang I’m a bit emotional. I’m nervous for him, but at the same time, I’m excited. It’s just overwhelming,” Aga added, calling the moment a “full circle” experience.
The night was especially meaningful for the Muhlach family as Andres performed in his first-ever musical, taking on the role of Adie—a character his father originally played in the 1984 film. Asked what advice he gave his son, Aga kept it simple: “Just give us your best.”
Bagets: The Musical follows the story of five boys as they navigate friendship, love, and the challenges of growing up. Andres alternates with Mico Hendrix Chua as Adie, alongside KD Estrada and Ethan David as Arnel, Noel Comia Jr. and Tomas Rodriguez as Gilbert, Milo Cruz and Migo Valid as Tonton, and Jeff Moses and Sam Shoaf as Topee.
The musical runs from January 23 to March 2026 at the Newport Performing Arts Theater. Tickets are available via TicketWorld, Ticket2Me, and the Newport World Resorts website.
