The all-female lead cast for “Open Endings,” an upcoming sapphic Cinemalaya 2025 film about queer exes turned best friends, has officially been revealed.

Leading the cast are actresses Janella Salvador, Jasmine Curtis-Smith, Klea Pineda and Leanne Mamonong, who is best known from the indie pop duo “Leanne and Naara.”

The announcement was made on Sunday, May 25 via social media posts of the lead stars where they posted group selfies of them introducing themselves to portray the four lead roles of the upcoming film.

According to ABS-CBN News’ report on the same day, Salvador will take on the role of Charlie, joining her are Smith as Hannah, Pineda portraying Kit, and Mamonong making her acting debut as Mihan.

Janella has been vocal about wanting to land sapphic projects since early 2023, especially after her on-screen tandem with fellow actress Kapamilya Jane de Leon gained attention in the 2022 TV adaptation series of Mars Ravelo’s “Darna”, followed by the music video for Salvador’s “Hey You” where the two portrayed a romantic relationship between women.

Jasmine is also bringing her sapphic film experience from the 2016 indie film “Baka Bukas,” for which she won Best Actress at the Cinema One Originals Film Festival.

Meanwhile, Klea, who publicly came out as a lesbian in 2023, is marking her first major film appearance in Open Endings. Also new to acting is Leanne, transitioning from her music career with Naara Acueza to the big screen.

Written by Keavy Vicente and directed by Nigel Santos, Open Endings explores the complex and heartfelt story of four queer women, who are exes-turned-best friends, whose bonds are pushed to its limits when one of them makes a life-changing decision.
