Fans celebrate ALAMAT Taneo’s 25th birthday the Magiliw way

From food and farming to cultural heritage and musical traditions, Magiliws from across the country are celebrating ALAMAT Taneo’s 25th birthday by spotlighting their own hometowns—through local dishes, farming practices, and cultural expressions they’re proud of.

With a series of unique fan-led events taking place across Luzon and the Visayas from May 18 to 25, the celebration highlights not only the beloved leader’s personal roots and favorites, but also the values he and the group continue to inspire in their fans: pride in Filipino identity, love for culture, and care for the community.

This year, Taneo turns 25 on May 31. To mark the occasion, Magiliws are continuing their tradition of meaningful projects that celebrate the member’s heritage and the group’s advocacy for Filipino culture.

Taneo, the leader of the six-member P-pop group, is proudly Ilocano and Kalinga. In his livestreams and tweets, he has expressed his love for pinakbet, a vegetable dish from the Ilocos region, and vitamin A-rich foods like kalabasa and papaya. He even once posted a photo of baby vegetables growing inside his house.

With roots in the highly agricultural regions of Northern Luzon, it’s no surprise that he follows a veggie-forward lifestyle and enjoys growing his own food.

These personal yet relatable details inspired three of this year’s birthday events: Taneo Go Grow Glow, Magtanim Ay Di Biro, and TAM-IS: A Taste of Bacolod.

Each activity aims to spark conversations about our local food heritage, sustainable ways of growing food, and how we can all eat better while helping build healthier, more resilient food systems.

Meanwhile, ENT2Y G and Agragsak Tayo—Ilocano phrases meaning “Tara, g!” and “Magsaya tayo!” respectively—celebrate Taneo’s proud Cordillera heritage and cultural roots.

Event Lineup

May 18, Sunday

Taneo Go Grow Glow: An educational discussion on Agroecology and local food heritage
The weeklong celebration kicked off on May 18 in San Jose del Monte, Bulacan, with Taneo Go Grow Glow. Organized in partnership with Good Food Community, Alyansa ng mga Magbubukid ng Bulacan, and Agroecology X, the event brought together Magiliws and the local farming community for a meaningful exchange of stories, food, and knowledge.

The day began with Magiliws introducing ALAMAT Taneo and his well-known love for pinakbet to the community. This served as a starting point for deeper discussions—such as the challenges farmers face in bringing food to our tables, and how agroecology offers a path toward more sustainable food systems that support both farmers and consumers.

Together with the community, the Magiliws prepared and cooked pinakbet using vegetables harvested from the farm in SJDM, guided by Chef Laorence Castillo (or Kusinero Lao, as he prefers to be called) of Gulay Na. While waiting for the pinakbet to simmer and shrink (true to its Ilocano name), Magiliws taught the community the lyrics to Dong Dong Ay, ALAMAT’s take on the Kalinga folk song Salidummay, which is traditionally sung during communal gatherings.

The freshly cooked pinakbet was then laid out on banana leaves and shared in a salusalo. The event closed with a tour of the community farm, where Magiliws were introduced to the various crops being grown: mais, talong, pinya, sitaw, saging, saluyot, malunggay, sili, and many others.

May 24, Saturday

ENT2Y G: Celebrating Taneo’s 25th birthday through Cordillera songs and dances
Now on its second run, ENT2Y G continues to explore the rich music and dance traditions of the Cordillera. Last year’s workshop introduced fans to traditional instruments and the sociopolitical stories behind them, culminating in a heartfelt mini recital.

This year’s edition will also feature the launch of the newly published book MENDAY-ENG TAKO! A Chapbook on the Traditional Chants of the Cordi IPs.

Magtanim Ay Di Biro

Magtanim Ay Di Biro, organized by Magiliw Iloilo, will be held at the Western Visayas Integrated Agricultural Research Center (WESVIARC), one of Iloilo’s leading hubs for agricultural research.

The program will include a brief discussion on agriculture in the region, an educational tour of the facility, and fun activities such as Taneo Farm Bingo, trivia games, and raffles.

The event will conclude with a picnic, giving Magiliws a relaxed space to connect and celebrate Taneo’s birthday together.

TAM-IS: A Taste of Bacolod

TAM-IS: A Taste of Bacolod is a cupsleeve event celebrating ALAMAT Taneo, set in the heart of Bacolod City—known as the Sugar Capital of the Philippines. In line with the city’s rich history and love for sweet delicacies, the event will feature a special factory tour at Merzci, one of Bacolod’s most popular and beloved delicacy producers.

Attendees will get the chance to see how local treats are made, while enjoying fan activities, cupsleeves, and freebies inspired by ALAMAT Taneo.

May 25, Sunday

Agragsak Tayo! A Cupsleeve Event for Taneo’s 25th Birthda

Agragsak Tayo is a special cupsleeve event—not just because it celebrates Taneo’s birthday, but also because it’s the first to be held in his hometown of Tabuk, Kalinga. Hosted by ALAMAT Taneo Kalinga, the event will take place at Lakbay Kalinga Café.

The celebration will feature cupsleeve fan goodies and interactive activities, but what makes it especially meaningful is its location—offering Magiliws a chance to connect with Taneo’s roots in a simple yet heartfelt way.

Magiliw Tradition
Inspired by the group’s music and advocacy, Magiliws have initiated their own activities that celebrate Filipino culture and contribute to social good.

Past activities include:

  • Tapis, Tubaw, at Tube Skirt – an educational discussion on indigenous textiles in the Philippines
  • Kada Na! – a learning session on coastal ecosystems
  • Tara Keni! – a museum tour celebrating Kapampangan identity in modern times
  • Mangmola Hita Mo! – a fundraising project for reforestation in Zambales
  • Laag Ta! – a series of museum tours highlighting wildlife, traditional music, and local history

Through these activities, Magiliws hope to inspire greater appreciation for our own culture and history—both within the P-pop community and beyond.
