Pinoy YouTubers mourn passing of Emman Nimedez

YouTube star Emman Nimedez passed away early Sunday morning after a three-month battle with leukemia. He was only 21 years old.

Emman’s girlfriend, Peachy Santos, confirmed her boyfriend’s death in a post on his official Facebook page. She said Emman died surrounded by family at 1 a.m. today (August 16) at St. Luke’s Medical Center in Quezon City.

“Our family is thankful to everyone who offered prayers and support,” she wrote, requesting privacy for the family to grieve.

The popular vlogger announced to his followers that he was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia, a type of blood cancer, last May. Based on the updates on his Facebook page, he has been in and out of the hospital in recent months before he was rushed to intensive care on Friday due to kidney failure and blood complications.

Emman, however, remained active online, producing at least five YouTube videos since he went public with his condition primarily to share with his over 2.25 million subscribers his fight versus cancer.

He was also a singer-songwriter with more than 1 million monthly Spotifiy listeners. He was able to release three songs during the quarantine period, namely Teka Lang, Kung Pwede Lang and his latest song, Uuwian, the music video of which was also his very last upload on YouTube.

Wil Dasovich, Mimiyuuh, Alodia Gosiengfiao, Lloyd Cadena and other top YouTubers and content producers took to social media to express shock and grief over Emman’s death.

Popular vlogger and cosplayer Alodia Gosiengfiao remembered him as an “extremely talented creator”.

“I am deeply shocked and saddened. Not only is he a friend and colleague but a teammate as well.. our carry for Team Sapphire. An extremely talented creator and humble guy… Dear Emman, you will be missed. Deepest condelences to his family and friends,” Alodia wrote on Twitter.

“Maraming Salamat sa mga memories. Napakabait, magalang at humble na bata. I love you Emman!” vlogger Lloyd Cadena also wrote on Twitter.

Vloggers also credited Emman for setting an example and being an inspiration when it came to content creation.

“Rest in peace Emman. Thank you for setting the bar high in content creation. You’re an inspiration,” wrote Marvin on Twitter.

“Isa ako sa mga humanga sa mga gawa ni Emman na mga contents. Kaya nakakalungkot isipin na wala na siya…sayang,” said Joel Mondina, better known as Pambasang Kolokoy to his followers wrote on his video tribute to Emman.

The folk-pop band Ben&Ben, Mimiyuuh, Kimpoy Feliciano and Tita Krissy Achino also expressed their condolences.

“Rest in paradise, @EmmanNimedez,” the band Ben&Ben wrote.

Wil Dasovich also paid a touching, lengthy tribute to Emman.

He wrote: “For those who aren’t too familiar, Emman was one of the OG YouTubers in this country and throughout his time, he remained as one of the most underrated and authentic creators on the platform.

“He was a filled with a unique creativity that can’t be matched and he never stepped on anyone’s feet getting to where he got. More than anything he was incredibly nice — something that in this current day and age is extremely overlooked and it’s what this world needs more than ever.”

“You’ve impacted millions, you made your mark, at only 21 years old, you’ve accomplished more than most people do in their entire lives. Your legacy, your spirit, and all the beautiful aspects of your personality will continue to live on through #TeamPayaman and all those you’ve touched. No more pain, rest in peace buddy. Love you so much man,” Will ended.

Emman started creating YouTube videos in 2011 and rose to fame in 2017 for his parody videos of K-drama shows.
