Robin Padilla has defended his wife Mariel Rodriguez against those criticizing her weight gain after giving birth to their second child.
For the veteran actor, women undergoing such body changes because of motherhood should instead be supported, not shamed.
Robin said in an Instagram post that the reason why the TV host has put on weight is part of her journey as wife and mother of two daughters — Maria Isabella and Maria Gabriela.
He recalled that when he met the single Mariel, all her energies were focused on making herself look good.
People have scrutinized the differences between the Mariel then and now, but Robin lamented some of these comments have gone overboard and have become hurtful.
He said his wife just chose to love her children more than herself.
He continued that no woman would ever dream or aspire to gain weight, especially for someone like Mariel who’s always in the public eye.
He explained that women’s bodies have different reactions to giving birth and nursing babies.
Robin pointed out that Mariel didn’t gain weight because she just wants to eat; her food intake is to help her breastfeeding.
Women experiencing physical changes for their children should be supported with kind words, he stressed.
Robin praised his wife for being “a fighter and a crusader an inspiration to all that is dreaming of having a child,” adding that “giving birth to a child is giving life and every mother’s love is a mirror of The Love of the Almighty God for us.”
In a separate post, Robin dedicated another sweet post to Mariel for her 36th birthday. He wrote that despite people saying that they’ve been together for a decade now, to him, she’s still the same Mariel he first met when she was 26 years old.
Robin met Mariel on the noontime variety show Wowowee on ABS-CBN where she was a mainstay and he was a guest host for two weeks.
