Broadway icon Lea Salonga has confirmed that she and her husband, Robert Chien, have been separated for some time.
The 54-year-old award-winning singer made the revelation during a brief interview with entertainment reporter MJ Marfori, on the sidelines of the promotional activities for “Les Misérables: World Tour Spectacular”, where Salonga portrayed the role of Madame Thénardier.
Lea opened up about her family life when the conversation turned to their only child, Nic Chien, a trans actor. She shared that Nic continues to receive strong support from loved ones despite both parents having demanding schedules.
“He has so much support… We’re both super busy but, thankfully, the dad and dad’s partner are the ones kind of, ‘Pag may sipon ka, it’s here, let’s send you food. Let’s make sure that you’re well,’” Salonga said.
Following the remark, Salonga confirmed her separation from Chien.
“Yes… it’s not a secret. We’ve been separated for a while. And now he’s happy, and I am happy that he’s happy,” the artist confirmed.
Salonga did not disclose further details regarding the reason for their separation or when it took place.
The couple tied the knot on January 10, 2007, in Los Angeles, California.
