Former actress Kate Gomez spoke up about the issues surrounding her son Rob Gomez and his relationship with former beauty queen Shaila Rebortera.
Rob was embroiled in a controversy that alleged his abusive behavior towards Shaila after the ex-beauty queen posted photos of a bruised arm on social media.
The posts have already been deleted but their traces have reached the online community who expressed their concern for Shaila.
Shaila’s deleted posts circulated online after revealing herself as the mother of a baby girl named Amelia, whose father is Rob, who had also revealed his relationship status as single.
In an exclusive interview with showbiz news outlet Pep, Kate expressed her sadness from seeing the negative comments about her son on social media.
Rob’s mother went on to reveal the root of the couple’s problem, apart from the actor’s admission that he was “single”, was that Shaila wanted Rob to post their family picture on his own social media account.
“The whole family is parang at loss because of what happened,” Kate told Pep.
“Ako, gustung-gusto ko nang mag-post ng picture ng apo ko kasi inggit na inggit na ako sa mga ka-age ko na ang daming apo. Kaya lang, sinasabi sa akin, huwag muna,” she shared.
Kate firmly denied the allegations that Rob hid his girlfriend and child from the public. She added that Rob didn’t publicize that Shaila and Baby Amelia were the reasons for the actor’s happiness as he wanted to separate his career from his personal life.
“Hindi masasabing idinenay sila ni Robert (Rob’s real name). Hindi lang ipinu-flaunt ni Robert. Pero sa ospital, sa mga check-up sa doktor, sa bakasyon, magkasama sila. Hindi siya itinatago,” she clarified.
In addition, Kate said that Rob had actually asked for Shaila’s hand in marriage during her pregnancy.
“Nang magbuntis si Shaila, nag-propose agad sa kanya si Robert noong May 2022. Pinuntahan siya sa Cebu, nag-schedule na sila [magpakasal].”
Unfortunately, Kate’s Chinese father-in-law had died at that time which resulted in the postponement of the couple’s marriage.
“Sa tradisyon ng mga Chinese, kapag may namatay, two years na hindi puwedeng magpakasal, mag-celebrate ng birthdays, at bawal magsuot ng pula. Kaya nakiusap ako kay Shaila kung puwedeng i-delay ang wedding,” explained Kate.
“Aside from that, meron siyang crown [Miss Multinational Philippines] na iniingatan that time. Dapat nga may competition pa siya kaya lang parang na-cancel,” she continued, seeing the delay as a “blessing in disguise”.
“Blessing din naman na-cancel kasi buntis siya,” Kate said.
Pep reported that the former actress even renovated their family home in Paranaque City so they could live together with Rob and Shaila.
“Nagpa-baby shower party pa kami. Nag-invite kami ng friends niya, mga taga-pageant industry.”
Kate reiterated, “Never naming itinago ang relasyon nila ni Robert. Alam ng agency niya.”
“Sobrang ganda ng apo ko. Sobrang proud ako sa apo ko kaya gustung-gusto kong mag-post ng picture niya sa social media,” she expressed her longing for her granddaughter.
Kate revealed that she was deeply saddened after Shaila decided to end their relationship and leave their residence with Baby Amelia last Monday, August 7.
“Umalis sila kanina. Hinabol ko, palabas na sila ng gate. Sabi ko kay Shaila, ‘Puwede ko bang mahalikan yung apo ko?’ Pumayag naman siya. Hinawakan ko muna si Amelia habang tinutulungan siya ni Robert na magkarga ng mga gamit,” Kate narrated the emotional moment.
According to the actor’s mother, they have always considered Shaila as a part of their family, and they’re willing to welcome her and Baby Amelia back into their home any time.
When asked about Kate’s message for Shaila, she simply said, “Hinay-hinay lang”.
“Lahat ng bagay, sinasabi natin may repercussions. So, isipin mo palagi, hindi ka na mag-isa kapag magdedesisyon ka. Dalawang buhay ang magkasama—ikaw at ang anak mo,” she told Shaila.
“So, whenever magdedesisyon ka, dapat una yung kapakanan ng bata. Dapat priority talaga ang bata.”
Similar to Shaila, Kate advised her son: “Dahan-dahan.”
“Kung may away, umiwas, kasi mahirap kapag makikipag-away at makikipagtalo ka,” she told Rob.
“Dapat si Amelia ang palaging priority at in fairness kay Robert, ang anak niya ang kanyang priority. Sobrang hands-on siya. Ganoon kamahal ni Robert si Amelia na prinsesa namin sa bahay,” added Kate.
