South Korean singer-rapper T.O.P is returning to acting for the first time in six years with his addition to Netflix’s hit international series Squid Game.
On Thursday, June 29, Netflix revealed a new batch of new faces who will play in the second season of the survival show. Joining T.O.P, eight new cast members have been added to the series namely Park Gyu-young, Kang Ae-sim, Lee David, Lee Jin-uk, Roh Jae-won, Won Ji-an, and fellow idol and former IZONE member Jo Yu-ri.
Netflix previously announced that Yim Si-Wan, Kang Ha-Neul, Park Sung-Hoon, and Yang Dong-Geun would be joining the new season alongside returning cast members Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byung-hun, Gong Yoo, and Wi Ha-jun.
T.O.P was the first Big Bang member to venture into acting starring in Korean films Tazza: The Hidden Card, 19, 71: Into the Fire, and Commitment, and dramas I Am Sam and Iris.
A month ago, T.O.P previously voiced out that he is no longer a member of iconic boy group.
“I’ve already withdrawn,” the musician responded to a fan’s question on his Instagram post asking if he had left Big Bang.
“I’ve already told you guys, that I’m leaving and I’m now facing a new chapter in my life since last year,” he added in a separate comment on the post.
On May 29, T.O.P appeared to be teasing that he is presently working on new music when he uploaded a video of himself tinkering with a music workstation on Instagram. “Still making my albums,” he captioned in his post.
T.O.P’s departure from his longtime label, YG Entertainment, came over a year ago.
The agency’s statement was quoted in a report from Korean media outlet Soompi that although the artist “wants to expand his horizons beyond Big Bang,” he will still be “a part of Big Bang’s activities whenever possible.”
Following his separation from YG, T.O.P appeared to express his relief with his exit with two pictures on Instagram Stories which he had written at the time with, “HAPPY.” and “I’m so GLAD.”
On April 2022, the group released their first comeback in four years, “Still Life”. The long-awaited single featured the vocals of members G-Dragon, Taeyang, Daesung, and T.O.P.
