Maine Mendoza launches online fund drive for working Filipinos affected by COVID-19 lockdown

Maine Mendoza has started an online fundraiser called “DoNation Drive” for Filipino workers affected by the lockdown in Luzon due to COVID-19.

The TV host-actress announced she is launching the drive to help in her own little way. She said that the proceeds will be received by “workers who live on a day-to-day basis.”

“We are all required to stay at home, but some people, especially our frontliners, whether be it in the government, food and medical industry have been trying their best to fulfill their duty as our modern heroes in these difficult times,” she said in a short article.

Maine will be sending P1,000 per household for groceries and other essentials.

“This also leads to the realization that we can all help, in our own little ways, to at least make things easier to those who need it the most. If you want to play a part, you can spare a little amount from your pocket that will surely go to those in need. Our share, no matter how big or small, will go a long way.”

Those who are in need of financial assistance were asked to send an e-mail with their proof of employment attached.

In a Facebook post, Maine assured that even PUV drivers, construction workers and vendors are qualified to receive the fund.

In a separate post, the 25-year-old actress-host warned those willing to donate of scammers posing as celebrities and public figures. She clarified that there is only one GCash number that will be used.

“Please do not rely on other people’s post. Always refer to my social media accounts and don’t forget to double check the number! Daming nag-ttake advantage ng situation.”
