Mika Salamanca addressed online critics who described her as “performative” for speaking up about the country’s political situation, expressing dismay at how some people use such situations to throw hate at celebrities instead of focusing on real issues.
Her reaction stemmed from her X post, where she shared her two cents about those who “avoid politics” and encouraged them to “wake up”, amid political tension in the country.
While many fans and followers echoed her sentiments and praised her for speaking up, others criticized Salamanca, with some accusing her of being “performative” and resurfacing her past association with Kitty Duterte, daughter of former President Rodrigo Duterte.
“Coming from the BFF of Kitty [Duterte]. Performative,” one user wrote in a comment that gained thousands of likes.
Another netizen commented, “Right message, wrong messenger especially because you’re friends with Kitty.”
Despite the criticism, several supporters came to Salamanca’s defense, pointing out that she has long spoken out about political issues and claiming she had already distanced herself from Duterte.
“My girl lagi ka nare-ratio dito for speaking up about politics pero one thing is for sure, you’re always on the right side of history. ‘Yung taong nili-link nila sayo matagal ka na nag-cut ties,” read one comment.
“They will drag you if you do and drag you if you don’t, at this point, senseless na talaga sila. You’re doing great! Continue voicing out whenever you feel you have to!”, another user added.
In a separate post, the Pinoy Big Brother (PBB) Celebrity Collab Edition 1.0 Big Winner called out those who use political discussions as an opportunity to attack artists and public figures they dislike, instead of focusing on the real issues being raised.
“Stop using this situation to hate artists that you don’t like. Sana ilagay natin sa tama ‘yung galit natin at sana kung gaano kataas standards n’yo sa mga content creators at artista, ganyan din kataas standards n’yo sa mga iuupo n’yo sa 2028,” wrote Mika.
She further expressed disappointment over how conversations surrounding frustrations with the government often shift toward personal attacks.
“You can always disagree with what I’m saying or even with who I am as a person, but really? Even in conversations about people’s frustrations with the government, some of you still choose to focus on attacking individuals instead of the actual issue,” she added.
