Vice Ganda takes pride in ‘Call Me Mother’ being first Asian movie to film in Disneyland

Vice Ganda revealed with pride that his upcoming MMFF film, “Call Me Mother,” made history as the first Asian film to shoot scenes inside the world-famous Disneyland theme park in Hong Kong.

The film’s official trailer released by Star Cinema showed several scenes set in the famed theme park, reportedly marking a first not only for the movie but also for the Philippine film industry.

“Hindi lang namin ginamit ‘yung Disneyland as location. We had the Fab 5. Hindi biro makuha sila — Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Daisy Duck, Donald Duck, and Goofy. For you to be able to get, parang silang superstars na bibigyan kayo ng certain number of time,” said director Jun Robles Lana, adding his thanks to film producer Percival Intalan, a former Disneyland employee, for making it possible.

Lana admitted to feeling emotional while filming the scenes featuring Vice Ganda and child actor Lucas Andalio interacting with the iconic Disney characters.

“Noong kinukuha namin iyon, naiyak talaga ako. May oras talaga na we have to shoot that in 15 minutes and nagawa talaga namin,” he added.

Vice Ganda also expressed pride over the exclusive access granted to the production. He shared that their team was allowed to film in select areas of the park, including the iconic Disneyland castle, without other visitors around.

“Ipinasara din [‘yung Disneyland]. Nandoon kami, binigyan kami ng time, exclusively for us… tapos sinabay kami na nandoon yung tao tapos binigyan kami ulit ng oras para sa amin lang, hanggang sa nagsara siya, nandodoon kami,” the actor-host shared. “Parang one whole day ako nag-shoot doon, and sila parang two days.”

Marking the major milestone, the team proudly noted that Call Me Mother is the first Asian film and the third in the world to film inside Disneyland.

“Nakakaproud kasi we are the first movie in Asia na pinayagan mag-shoot sa Disneyland and the third in the whole world,” Vice Ganda added.

Topbilled by Vice Ganda, Nadine Lustre, and Lucas Andalio, the film also features Pinoy Big Brother (PBB) housemates Mika Salamanca, Brent Manalo, Klarisse De Guzman, Shuvee Etrata, River Joseph, and Esnyr Ranollo, as well as MC Muah, Iyah Mina, Divine Tetay, John Lapus, Carmi Martin, Chanda Romero, and Ces Quesada.

Call Me Mother is set to hit theaters this Christmas.
