Cristine Reyes clapped back at netizens after receiving backlash for her birthday post featuring a photo of herself with the late Taiwanese star Barbie Hsu.
On Wednesday, February 5, the actress shared a Facebook post with a throwback photo of herself Hsu while greeting herself a “happy birthday.”
Her now-deleted post read: “Rest in peace, our childhood favorite. Also, happy birthday sa akin ngayong araw na ‘to,” alongside her birthdate.
Some netizens found the post confusing, while others criticized it as “insensitive.”
Hsu’s passing on February 2 shocked fans worldwide, paying tribute to the late actress who was known for iconic role as Shan Cai in the 2001 Meteor Garden” series.
“Sana hiniwalay nalang niya yung post niya about sa birthday,” said a Facebook user.
“Maililito kasi [yung] mag cocomment if condolence or happy bday HAHAHA,” wrote another.
Cristine later addressed the backlash in an Instagram story, but faced even more criticism with how she respoded to the matter.
“Maligayang kaarawan sa akin. ‘Yun na lang, oks na? Kailangan palaging perfect. Bawal magkamali nowadays.
“May kalupitan na kapalit sa mga bagay kapag nagkamali, e, ‘di ba? Marahil ako nga talaga ay nagluluksa ngayong kaarawan ko. Good?
“Ang daming magagaling sa mundo,” said Cristine.
