Maritoni Fernandez shared her sentiments on reaching her 20th year as a breast cancer survivor. The actress opened up that she remains anxious during her regular checkups.
“Today I had my mammogram, sonogram and tomography done. I am a 20 year survivor and you’d think I’m used to the drill by now but every check up still brings with it a flood of emotions,” she wrote on her Instagram page.
She was happy to share that her trip to the hospital turned out fine after her doctor cleared her of any illnesses.
“Thank you Jesus for the all clear. I am deeply grateful. When it boils down to it, you realize nothing truly matters as much as your health,” she said.
Seeing that October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Maritoni encouraged other women to get a breast exam as well.
“I know it’s Covid and all that but don’t delay your check ups. Set an appointment and go get it done. You can safely go as long as you prepare properly. Nothing matters more than your own peace of mind.
“Remember always that early detection is key to surviving Breast Cancer,” she said.
Maritoni was diagnosed with breast cancer back in March 2000, when she was 30 years old.
