‘I’ve learned not to expect’: Aga Muhlach on MMFF Best Actor award loss

-

After topbilling Metro Manila Film Festival entry Miracle in Cell No. 7, an emotional remake of its South Korean counterpart, moviegoers expected veteran actor Aga Muhlach to win the coveted Best Actor Award.

Their remake was among the many well-made films like Mindanao and Sunod in the roster of entries in this year’s festival. The winner of the award, Allen Dizon of the Brillante Mendoza film Mindanao, was also surprised he beat Aga for the trophy.

For Aga, his loss was not a disappointment. After many years in the industry, the actor said he has learned not to expect.

“Sa tinagal-tagal ko sa industriyang ito, I’ve had my share of yung mga ganyan na, even when I was younger, I would really expect, parang ‘I wanna win in this awards night, I wanna win in this award giving body, I wanna win’ biglang talo ka. So I’ve learned not to expect,” he said during an interview with Boy Abunda.

He added that even the trophies do not hold much weight to him anymore.

“Pati yung mga tropeo, I’ve learned not to take that seriously. Para sa akin ang tropeo ko, hindi ito showbz, ang tropeo para sa akin pag ang pelikula ko pinanuod nila. Gusto ko siya, masarap sa gabing yun pag nanalo ka pero pag hindi ka nanalo it doesn’t change you,” Aga said.

Aga expressed he is happy for Allen Dizon’s triumph.

“For Allen, he won Best Actor, I’m like ‘Wow! I know that feeling.’ Alam ko yung feeling ng nanalo, masarap. Congratulations, really.”
