Veteran entertainment journalist and talent manager Ethel Ramos, who was regarded as the “dean of entertainment writers,” has passed away at the age of 87.

Her niece, Farah Ramos, confirmed the sad news via a Facebook post. The cause of her death was not mentioned.

“It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our dearest Tita Ethel Ramos today, September 10, 5:38 p.m. She was 87,” Farah wrote.

“The family requests for prayers at this time of great sorrow and grief. Wake details will be announced soon. Godspeed, Dean. We love you. You will be sorely missed,” she added.

Ethel’s remains will be cremated on Thursday, Sept. 14, at around 12 noon.

Further details about Ethel’s funeral were also posted by her family on social media.

“The remains of our beloved Tita Ethel Ramos will lie in state at Room 301 of the Nacional Chapels and Crematory (formerly Funeraria Nacional) on Araneta Avenue starting today, Monday, Sept. 11, until Wednesday, Sept. 13,” Farah shared on Facebook.

“Friends and family who wish to pay their last respects may do so beginning 2 p.m. Daily mass is at 6 p.m,” she added.

Ethel was a talent manager and mentor to many celebrities and publicists, including Bong Revilla, Ina Raymundo, Claudine Barretto, and Angel Locsin among others.

Seasoned actor Aga Muhlach, whom Ramos has managed for three decades, paid tribute to the late veteran journalist.

“30 years of love, laughter, arguments, tsismis, pangarap, hard work to name a few. We all shared together and we just loved and embraced each other. I will miss you. I am forever grateful to you and what you’ve done for me,” Aga wrote in his Instagram post.

Lani Revilla, politician and wife of Bong Revilla, also extended her condolences in a sentimental Facebook post.

“It is with sadness that I send my condolences to the family of Ethel Ramos. Manay Ethel, as she is fondly called, was one of the persons who gave me my screen name,” Lani wrote.

She is one of the few people who has been with our family through our ups and downs. We will miss you, Manay Ethel.”

Ethel, also known by her moniker “Manay Ethel”, was a Journalism graduate from the University of Santo Tomas, who earned the title “Dean of Entertainment Writers” for being approachable in press conferences, even with new, aspiring writers.
