Xerenade’s Migo Valid and Milo Cruz got candid as they reflected on their shared role as Tonton in “Bagets: The Musical.”
During the “Do You Dare?” challenge with The Philippine STAR, Milo and Migo recalled their style and process in portraying Tonton, a role originally played by William Martinez in the 1984 coming-of-age film.
“Sobrang saya ko kasi hindi ko rin na-imagine… na kaming dalawa [ni Milo] ‘yung mag-a-alternate. So, para sa amin, parang mas naging madali siya kasi napag-uusapan namin ‘yung pwede naming gawin,” Migo said.
Even though they play the same character, the two said they each have a different approach on stage.
“Sa kanya, mas more of tough love ‘yung in terms of the singing. Parang ‘yung sa akin, more emotional na free flowing,” Milo said.
“Kung anong nabibigay niyang maganda, kinukuha ko. Kung anong mga nabibigay kong maganda, kinukuha niya rin. So, from that, parang nagsasama ‘yung idea naming dalawa para mas maging buo si Tonton. And may nagsabi nga na parang, kaming dalawa daw, ‘pag pinagsama, talagang perfect Tonton na,” Migo echoed.
The duo recently made their musical debut. They are both members of Filipino vocal boy group XERENADE.
“There was a time ng rehearsal namin. Kasi we do shadowing. So there are times na mag-shadow ako sa kanya, there are times na siya yung mag-shadow sa akin,” Milo recalled.
“Alam kong kakayanin ko kahit walang suporta ni Milo, pero siyempre dahil magkasama kami, mas naging solid,” Migo noted.
“Bagets: The Musical,” is now running at the Newport Performing Arts Theater until March 22, 2026. Tickets are still available via TicketWorld, Ticket2Me, and the Newport World Resorts website.
