Over October reveals ‘simple’ backstory behind band’s name

-

Alternative pop band Over October revealed the story behind their band name—and it all comes down to two names, one birth month, and a stressful school week.

In a recent post on X, the five-member band shared a set of photos featuring its members, along with an explanation of how “Over October” came to be.

“A lot of people ask, ‘ba’t Over October yung pangalan niyo?’ 🤔 Simple lang yung backstory!!”, the post’s caption read.

The band initially began with two members, Josh Buizon and Josh Lua, who started searching for a name that was “smooth” but still felt like their own.

“It all started with the two Joshes,” the post began, referring to the founding members. “At first we joked around with names like: Josh and Josh, Josh Squared or Josh Ko Po HAHAHA. But nothing felt quite right.”

That search led them to reflect on what they had in common—both shared the same first name and birth month in October.

“We started thinking: what do the two of us have in common? Same first name? But also… we’re both born in October!” the post continued. “And then we said it out loud and it clicked!”

As it turned out, their brainstorming session happened during Finals week, adding another layer of meaning to the name.

“We just wanted it to be ‘over’. And the month we were thinking about all this was… ‘October’!!! That’s how the name ‘Over October’ was born.”

The band heartfelt post concluded by expressing the members’ fondness for the name over time, “That’s how the name “Over October” was born. It stuck with us ever since.”

Over October, composed of Lua, Buizon, and members Janessa Geronimo, Joric Canlas, and Anton Rodriguez, is best known for their popular tracks like “Ikot”, “Kaakit-akit”, “Wait”, “Sandali Lang”, and “Ating Dalawa”.
