Viva warns public against AI-generated ‘deepfake’ video of Anne Curtis

-

Viva Artists Agency (VAA) has issued a public warning after a “deepfake” video featuring actress-host Anne Curtis was found circulating online as part of a promotional campaign for a “financial project” on Facebook.

In an official statement released by the talent agency, VAA confirmed that the video is “AI-generated” and that neither Anne Curtis nor the agency has authorized the use of her image in connection with the said Facebook page.

“It has come to our attention that a certain Facebook page is using the image of one of our artists, Anne Curtis-Smith, illegally without any authority whatsoever,” the announcement began.

The agency emphasized that the video is a “deepfake” — an artificially generated likeness created without the consent of Curtis or her management. Viva strongly condemned the act, warning that those responsible for producing and disseminating the video will face serious legal consequences.

“Please be informed that Anne is NOT connected in any way to the said Facebook page. The video is a DEEPFAKE, a product of Al (Artificial Intelligence), and was made without consent of Anne nor of Viva. We do not condone such acts, and those found responsible shall be dealt with severely and held civilly and criminally liable to the maximum extent possible under the law,” it read.

VAA concluded the statement by urging the public to remain vigilant against online scams and the growing misuse of artificial intelligence to fabricate videos and spread misinformation.

Anne is the latest Filipino celebrity to fall victim to AI-generated content which often appear in fake endorsements for cryptocurrency schemes and products all without the figures’ consent.

Prior to the recent incident, similar deepfake videos and manipulated ads have targeted other well-known personalities, including members of P-pop girl group BINI, Kapuso star Michael V., medical professional Dr. Willie Ong, and former senator Manny Pacquiao, whom have since taken to social media to deny their involvement and warn their followers against engaging with such misleading content.
