OPM songstress KZ Tandingan is celebrating love in all forms this Valentine’s season with her latest single, “Nagmamahal Lang Ako”, which she revealed was inspired by a close friend from the LGBTQIA+ community who has yet to come out.

The ballad, which carries a message about love and acceptance produced by KZ herself, will be part of her upcoming album, “Soul Supremacy II.”

During the song’s recently-concluded listening party, KZ reportedly became emotional as she shared the story behind the track.

“Hindi pa niya kayang ipagsigawan sa buong mundo, so habang hindi pa niya maikwento, ako na muna ang magkukuwento ng kwento niya,” said Tandingan as quoted by ABS-CBN News.

KZ revealed that she immediately sent the song to her friend upon completing it.

“This person knows that I wrote the song for them. Kasi when I wrote it and when I finished writing it, sinend ko agad sa kanya. Sabi ko, ‘alam mo naman, I will always be here, ready. Pag sinabi Mong go na tayo, magpa-pride march na tayo, I will be here,” KZ added.

The award-winning singer also described this friend as a “brilliant person” who has played a significant role in being her confidant whenever she needed a life advice.

KZ expressed her wish for her friend to to overcome their fears and embrace the love they truly deserve: “I just hope and pray that this person gets to experience the love na binibigay niya. Na kaya niyang ipagsigawan sa buong mundo na hindi siya natatakot.”

Alongside the track’s release, KZ also premiered a short film titled “Ikaw, Kelan?”, starring Drag Race Philippines Season 2 runner-up Arizona Brandy as the lead actor, which is inspired by Nagmamahal Lang Ako.
