Anthony Jennings asserted that he is not the cause of his on-screen partner Maris Racal’s split with her ex-boyfriend, Rico Blanco.
Netizens and fans of the celebrity couple were shocked about the news of the pair’s split which was confirmed by Maris during an event with the press last Friday, July 12.
In a showbiz report by entertainment columnist Ogie Diaz, he mentioned on his YouTube Channel that the actor denied being involved in the separation of the celebrity couple.
“Hindi po Mama Ogs. Sasabihin ko naman kung ako,” Ogie read Anthony’s answer upon him privately messaging the actor regarding the issue.
The controversy with Anthony being the cause of the breakup was mostly nudged by fans, wanting to know whether the on-screen love team has gone from reel to real.
Maris and Anthony’s pairing, fondly known as “Mathon”, rose to popularity in the hit Kapamilya series, “Can’t Buy Me Love”, where they played the roles of Irene and Snoop respectively.
Additionally, one of the reasons why netizens have an inkling and want to push this agenda is due to the fact that Anthony is seen all over Maris’ Instagram.
The speculations were further fueled by photos of the reel couple together outside when a restaurant page posted two different photos of each actor on Facebook, which netizens assumed were taken on the same day due to the similar clothing of their companions.
“”Anthony is out of the picture” nasa kabilang picture siya,” the resto jokingly wrote in their caption, poking fun at Maris’ initial statement regarding Anthony’s speculated involvement in their relationship.
However, the page clarified that the photo was taken months ago during a taping in their restaurant. It was only posted for parody purposes.
This allegation was quickly dismissed by the actor upon his response to Ogie.
Ogie also clarified that the two being on each other’s public pages is only due to public promotions for their upcoming movie under Director Jason Paul Laxamana.
The columnist also confirmed that it is not plausible considering that the actor has a relationship of his own which Anthony had personally confirmed in the past.
Surrounded by relationship inquiries, some fans are also curious whether the actor is currently living with his girlfriend.
To this, Ogie replied, “First time ko lang marinig ‘yan. Kaya tatanungin muna natin si Anthony kung totoo ‘yan.”
“Pero ang importante dito, hindi siya ang dahilan [ng hiwalayan],” Ogie concluded, putting rumors to rest.
On the other hand, Rico has not yet spoken about his split with Maris as of writing.
