Netizens divided on Slater Young’s Banawe Rice Terraces-inspired project

Celebrity engineer Slater Young has unveiled his newest real estate project which was supposedly inspired by the Banawe Rice Terraces but netizens are seemingly not convinced by its idea of sustainability.

The former Pinoy Big Brother housemate recently revealed the details of his project called The Rise at Monterrazas in his YouTube vlog, which he had been working on for a very long time now.

On his vlog, Slater dubbed the project “Skypod 3.0” and discussed the backstory behind the development of the concept.

“It’s very, very interesting especially because we are building it on the side of the mountain. We had three pillars in mind when we were designing this. We wanted to be architecturally forward, something that Cebu or the Philippines has never seen before,” Slater said.

“We wanted it to be not just maganda tignan but very, very useable din and may added benefit to the user. And lastly, because we are building on a mountain side, we want the project to be as sustainable as possible,” he added.

According to Slater, his team was inspired by working with nature just like how Filipinos were culturally inclined to work with their natural environment in the past.

“We got inspired by the Banawe Rice Terraces. So, instead of a normal building which is typically a straight up and down, we kind of like worked with the terrain,” he said.

Slater took pride in its concept that focuses on sustainability and being future-proof, emphasizing that the project has “less environmental impact”.

“We pushed everything towards the mountain and just worked with the terrain. Each and every space was pushed towards the back. With that, we were able to create this free-flowing design. But not only that. This whole structure is now spread out across the mountain, making it a whole lot safer and less yung environmental impact natin,” he explained.

Others were wowed by the spectacular and ambitious project and praised Slater’s passion to explain its details to everyone.

However, some online users seemed to think otherwise and questioned its impacts on the local environment, criticizing the project’s construction process which would involve making deliberate adjustments to the natural landscape of the mountain.

Meanwhile Slater’s vlog titled “Skypod 3.0! Yes, We Are Really Building This!” has garnered over 400,000 views, as of writing.
