Christophe Bariou, entrepreneur and non-showbiz boyfriend of Nadine Lustre, bared his battle with cancer on social media.
Christophe revealed in an Instagram post on Wednesday, June 7, that he was diagnosed with cancer three years ago.
“Around 3 years ago, I was diagnosed with cancer and I was told I only had a few weeks left to live,” he wrote in his post.
“The enemy was invisible and deep inside my own body – a body that I never doubted before, at the age of 27, Christophe said.
Christophe felt fear, anger, and frustration upon the discovery, “Why is this happening to me? Why me? I felt so full of life and suddenly finding out I had a couple weeks left to live was devastating… to say the least.”
“At that point, I was about to choose to stay put in Siargao, live the best I could out of my last days and not even bother trying to cure myself since I thought there was not much hope left,” he shared.
He was relieved from hopelessness after a couple of days when he learned that there were doctors who could give him a “chance to heal” but he had to leave for the country immediately to be treated in a specialized hospital.
In France, Christophe’s doctors found out that he had a “very rare type of lymphoma” and that “it was so rare they had no statistics of survival”.
Despite the grave condition, the doctors gave him hope and made him undergo six months of treatment.
Christophe lauded his doctors’ efforts in offering him the “best treatments available from the leading cancer research center in Europe” which was also “free of charge thanks to the rights the French fought for”.
“It just makes me think how unfair it can be in other countries when something as bad as this hits,” he added.
“After only 2 months of intense chemotherapy and immunotherapy, I was in full remission,” Christophe shared the good news.
In his sentiments, his journey “through all the terrible side effects of the chemo” left him a lessons that despite everything, his goals in life did not change one bit.
“I wanted to get back on my feet as fast as possible and continue everything I started, but with more intention and even more motivation,” Christophe said.
“Our lives are way too precious to be wasted,” the cancer survivor added.
Christophe thanked his current partner Nadine, friends, and family who have supported him through his cancer journey.
