TikTok dance trend helps dialysis patient from Maguindanao

A nurse from Maguindanao recently hopped on a TikTok dance trend. To his surprise, he became an instrument in helping his dialysis patient.

28-year-old Nurse Hamad Usman said that he decided to entertain his patient, Arnel, after one of their patients died.

“Ang nangyari kasi that time is nauna siya magupo sa dialysis chair niya so hinahanap niya ‘yung kasama niya, [sabi niya] “saan na ‘yung dito?” So as a part of healthworker, parang mahirapan din kami sabihin na wala na siya,” Nurse Hamad told The Philippine STAR during an interview.

“Parang sa part namin, ayaw rin namin sila panghinaan ng loob so minsan sinasabi lang namin is nalipat na lang siya ng ibang schedule or nag absent sila sa session nila. So ‘yun, naisipan ko na what if at least a small way lang at least mapasaya ko man siya,” he added.

Nurse Hamad then danced in front of Arnel and his genuine reaction was caught on cam.

“Hindi ko inexpect na sa small way, ‘yung mag sayaw sayaw lang ako dun tapos raw masyado ‘yung kanyang reaction na kahit simple way lang at least napasaya ko siya,” he recalled.

Nurse Hamad shared that Arnel has been under treatment in their hospital for three years.

“Twenty-one years old po siya.

Arnel undergoes dialysis three times a week but due to poverty, he has no choice but to stay in the hospital to save money.

“Kasi nga mahal na ‘yung gasolina, at the same time, mahirapan din po siya mag-travel lalo na dialysis patient po siya. ‘Yung anak lang niya ang kasama niya during dialysis,” he noted.

Surprisingly, Nurse Hamad’s video went viral on social media! As of writing, the uploaded video on TikTok has already garnered more than 168,000 views.

The video paved the way to reach out generous individuals who helped Arnel in his medications.

Arnel received P8,000 cash and in-kind donations from the online community.

Nurse Hamad hopes that the donations would help Arnel as he continues to fight against the disease.

Hindi ibig sabihin na nag da-dialysis ka na kumbaga that’s the end of your life. Tiis lang. Hindi ibibigay ng Diyos ‘yan kung hindi niyo kaya,” Nurse Hamad said when asked about his message to dialysis patients.
