Fur parent shares heartbreaking experience after ride-hailing app driver refuses to give ride to her sick aspin

This is a good reminder that all dogs deserve attention and respect, regardless of their breed.

Fur mom Elisa Marie Aguas shared her experience after her dog, Cooper, was discriminated against when she booked a ride through a ride-hailing app last Saturday, April 30, 2022.

Elisa was going to the vet for Cooper’s checkup at that time.

“We have our usual service whenever we visit our vet which was just five minutes away or less from our house. But that day, may prior commitment si Kuya so di niya kami mahatid. If we ride a tricycle, it will be a hassle for Cooper since may IV fluid connected sa kanya. It will be a stressful moment for him if ever. So we booked a ride to our destination,” she told The Philippine STAR.

“He refused to let Cooper in the car because he’s an “askal” daw. Kept on correcting him that they’re called Aspin but he’s not listening. He saw that Cooper’s already lethargic and have a dextrose connected at his arm but he’s still refusing us inside because he said Cooper might leave some smell in his car,” she narrated in a Facebook post.

Elisa said that the incident added to her stress as she was rushing to the vet to consult Cooper’s health situation.

“It’s an emergency kasi may blood clot sa dextrose ni Cooper that time. And ‘yun lang po talaga ‘yung source of strength niya since he’s not eating nor drinking water,” she recalled.

Elisa was able to take Cooper to the vet but she had to book another driver. “He’s still recovering. He still didn’t regain his appetite but the good thing is he’s not vomiting and don’t need IV fluid anymore.”

Elisa also said that she is still contemplating whether to report the issue to the proper authorities or let it slide, fearing the consequences it may bring to the driver.

“As a frequent passenger of that [ride-hailing app], I don’t let my dogs sit in the car seat. I place them on my lap the entire ride as a courtesy to the next user. I’m well aware of the protocols if you bring pets with you inside,” she said.

She also called out the discrimination against aspins, pointing out that all dogs, whatever the breed is, are all the same.

“I don’t get it why people often disregard Aspins. Cooper is such a sweet boy. He gives small kisses to his doctor and he’s always gentle even if there’s a needle involve. Dogs are dogs. Whatever breed the dog is, it will bark, pee, and poo the same. Let’s end the discrimination to Aspins,” she stressed.

Fellow fur parents sympathized with Elisa and Cooper, noting that they don’t deserve what happened to them.

“Di niya deserve ma-judge, ?Love you Cooper pagaling ikaw,” a netizen commented.

“Fur mom of 8 Aspins, nakakalungkot dahil ‘yung iba ang turing nila sa Aspin hindi breed ng aso kapag Aspin bawal sa maraming bagay kumpara sa mga may breed,“ another netizen said.
