‘Be patient’: Derek Ramsay and Ellen Adarna share advice for finding love

Newly-engaged celebrity couple Derek Ramsay and Ellen Adarna shared some pieces of advice to those who are still looking for “The One”.

Speaking in a virtual interview with writer G3 San Diego Monday night, Derek, 44, admitted that finding and understanding what love is were difficult for him, but it all changed when Ellen, 33, came into his life.

“That’s one thing we lack in this world — it’s believing in love and actually understanding what love really is. It’s hard. Love is difficult to understand, I was once there, too, but now that I’ve felt it with Ellen, it’s all clear to me,” said Derek.

“There’s hope guys!” Ellen chimed in. “It took him 44 years, be patient.”

“Yeah, be patient, don’t rush into it,” Derek echoed Ellen’s statement saying that “true love” will come in time and when it did for him, it did not take long for him to own up to his feelings and realize that she was already “the one”.

“And when I looked into myself and asked myself, ‘What is this that I’m feeling?’ I was like, ‘Wow, this is what true love is, and because it’s only been two weeks, why should I hold back?’ I’m like, ‘I’m so sure of it.’ And I told her. I was so confident. And that was what I told my mom,” said Derek.

The Kapuso hunk recounted his mom questioning why he wanted to get married right away after dating Ellen in just a short period of time.

“And she said, ‘Why so fast?’ I said, ‘Mom when did I ever bring up the M word in my 44 years?’ And she was like, ‘Alam mo, tama ka anak.’ And she saw how different I was,” related Derek.

The actor, who’s no stranger to failed relationships, also noted how true love felt like with Ellen, even after thinking that finding it amid a pandemic would be impossible.

“Have I thought of being in love before? Yeah, I’ve been there, and it doesn’t make me a bad guy. It’s just more of like, you have to find out, di ba? With Ellen, I discovered it.”

He also advised that if you’re waiting for true love, you shouldn’t let it consume you or hate on people who have found it.

“Your time will come. It took me 44 years and it came in the most… Like, I would never expect it would happen in a pandemic. But it did. I’m in love! And you guys will feel that, too. You will find that someone. But we should stop spreading hate and just be happy for one another and spread positivity guys, or this pandemic will never end.”

As for Ellen, she believes that love is also all about right timing.

“He met me at the right time. He met me because… during the pandemic, I fixed myself. I worked on myself. I did a lot of inner work. So at that time, I knew what I wanted na. I knew what was good for me, I knew what was bad for me.”

She said she was already happy and content with her life even without a love life.

“I didn’t have that desperate vibe of trying to look for love — you know, looking for a guy to complete me. I was already complete. When Derek came, he just made it better, more beautiful.”

The couple who got engaged last month after only two months of dating are looking forward to a “very simple” wedding this year.

“We’re on the same page because we both don’t really want that big, grand wedding,” said Derek.
