Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray filed a formal complaint against the alleged uploader of her fake nude photos on social media at the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on Tuesday.
In a press conference with NBI deputy director Vicente De Guzman, Gray’s legal counsel Atty. Christopher Liquigan said that the beauty queen was hurt upon knowing that digitally altered photos of her were being circulated online.
Liquigan told The STAR’s Rey Galupo that the said photos were taken and edited from Gray’s advertisements with local clothing brand Bench.
“It has come to our attention that alleged photos and other posts of Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray have been spreading online. These have been spread by several people in several social media accounts. We want to inform the public that these photos and whatever information, statements that are being spread are fake and the pictures are digitally altered,” Liquigan said.
As of writing, they still have not identified the uploader of the photos that’s why they sought the bureau’s assistance to uncover the person or persons behind them.
De Guzman said that the NBI’s cybercrime division will be responsible for handling Gray’s case.
“The reason why the NBI will be conducting the investigation is to determine the persons accountable for posting in social media, kahit sinong tamaan niyan i-charge namin,” he said.
On Sunday, Atty. Josabeth Alonso of Gray’s legal team issued a statement informing the public that “they are actively coordinating with authorities to hold accountable whoever is behind this scheme and face penal sanctions accordingly.”
“We strongly denounce this vicious attempt to tarnish the good name of Ms. Gray,” she said.
Meanwhile, Sam Milby released a statement of support for Gray on Sunday, following the warning issued against the circulation of his girlfriend’s alleged topless photo.
“I cannot simply stand by and allow other people to take control of a narrative that is not theirs to tell,” Milby said.
“I will always be here for her and will do everything in my power to protect her,” he added.
