“Megastar” Sharon Cuneta caught netizens’ attention after teasing her co-star Alden Richards to his former love team partner Maine Mendoza who is currently soon to be wed to her fiancé Arjo Atayde.
Sharon was invited as a special guest on the pilot episode of TV5’s new noontime show E.A.T. on Saturday, July 1.
In the finale number of the episode, Sharon was joined by the hosting trio Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto, and Joey De Leon (TVJ) to sing the classic OPM song Kahit Maputi Na Ang Buhok Ko together with the audience.
As the show came to an end, the Megastar was also asked to sing one of her hit songs, Bituing Walang Ningning. But before Sharon performed, she took the moment to greet Maine who was watching on the sidelines alongside other “legit Dabarkads”.
“Maine, congrats ha! Nag-shooting ako ngayon, may kasama ako. Yung anak kong bago, yung bago kong son, yung pangalan niya Alden,” Sharon said.
At first, it might seemed that Sharon was congratulating Maine for her engagement to Arjo but it turned out that Mega was referring to Alden.
Maine congratulated her back with a smile, “Congrats po sa movie ninyo Ms. Sharon.”
Sharon continued mentioning Alden, “Pero congrats ha. Hi, Alden! Nandito si Maine.”
Hosts and studio audience could be heard laughing and cheering as the Megastar, who channeled her inner AlDub fan, briefly brought back the memory of the iconic on-screen couple AlDub, which made waves in the country and originally rose to popularity in the old Eat Bulaga.
While AlDub fans rejoiced at the brief mention of their favorite loveteam, some “cringed” at the “awkward” interaction between the two, drawing mixed reactions from netizens, particularly to Sharon’s remark.
“Awkwaaaaaaaaaaard! ? ikakasal na yung tao ate!” one netizen called out the veteran singer-actress.
“Omg wait. Hold on. This was so awkward. What was that? Why did Sharon say that to Maine?! I thought she was congratulating her on her engagement to Arjo. ?,” a netizen tweeted her reaction.
“No big deal, yes Maine is getting married to Arjo but it doesn’t mean that she stopped to be friend to Alden, people react as if they’re ex lovers just ex partners at work and Mrs. Sharon knows that Maine is getting married that’s why she first congratulated her,” another netizen voiced their opinion under a reuploaded clip on Youtube.
“Ackk kinikilig ako ? ALDUB PA RIN,” a fan tweeted, recalling AlDub will mark their eighth anniversary this July.
Sharon is set to star in an upcoming film A Mother And Son’s Story, together with Alden as her on-screen son, under the direction of Nuel Naval.
