An elementary school teacher from Ozamiz City went viral on social media after she uploaded a video of her jamming with her students on May 18, 2023.
According to teacher Lezlie Patana, the electric drum was part of her class observation and surprisingly, her students enjoyed the moment.
“Lunch break na sana pero sabi ng mga bata, ‘Teacher kanta muna tayo,’ so naghanap ako ng random songs na familiar sa kanila,” she told The Philippine STAR.
Patana shared that her parents were a big influence on her talent. She even became a bassist when she joined a band back in college.
“Musically inclined na po talaga ako. Papa at Mama ko marunong din sa mga instruments. Thankful nga ako dahil may alam ako kunti sa instrument, ito yong tumulong sa aking pag-aaral way back college days, naging scholar ako kasi isa ako sa member ng band sa school,” she recalled.
In her other videos, Patana can also be seen playing guitar inside the classroom as she incorporates music in her teaching style.
She added that she loves both music and teaching, that is why she is happy to do both in her profession.
“Normally, ang hihilig talaga ng mga batang magkakanta, magsasayaw. Kaya binigyan ko rin ng mga activities na fit sa kanilang hilig. Nakita ko na nag eenjoy talaga sila, lalo na nung I let them try the drum pad,” she added.
Netizens lauded Patana for her efforts to entertain her students. The uploaded video on TikTok has already garnered more than 1.5 million views.
“Habang buhay maaalala yan ng mga students mo mam,” a netizen commented.
“Ang galing! Pinakamadaling paraan bumilis sa pagbasa ay ang pagkanta,” another netizen said.
