EJ Obiena flew home to the country with his German girlfriend following his successful outdoor season.
The Filipino pole vaulter returned to Manila on Thursday and paid a courtesy call on new Philippine Sports Commission chairman Noli Eala.
EJ was joined by his parents Jeanette and Emerson Obiena as well as German girlfriend Caroline Joyeux.
According to a report by Philstar, EJ will be staying in the country for a three-week vacation after being away for three years.
EJ brought honor and pride to the country as he now ranks third in the world’s men pole vault.
The 26-year-old athlete also impressed with his six gold, one silver, and one bronze medal wins at the European Championships.
In an Instagram post, EJ thanked those who expressed their support during the competition.
“Maraming salamat po sa lahat ng sumubaybay sa aking mga laban nitong mga nakaraang linggo. Lalo na po sa mga kababayang pumunta at nanood sa aking laro. Maraming salamat po,” he wrote.
