Vice Ganda publicly apologized to viewers after facing criticism online over jokes made during the July 24 episode of It’s Showtime.
At the end of It’s Showtime’s “Laro Laro Pick” segment on Saturday, July 25, Vice Ganda addressed the backlash after netizens criticized some of the jokes in the segment and its “Memerimar” skit as “offensive” and “insensitive.”
Vice said the production recognized viewers’ concerns and emphasized that the noontime show’s goal has always been to entertain and bring joy to its audience and not to offend anyone.
He apologized to viewers who were hurt by the jokes and assured them that the team would do better moving forward.
The controversy stemmed from Friday’s episode, when Vice’s “Memerimar” skit drew criticism after Baby Dolls member Johaira Moris was sprayed with water, followed by a joke suggesting her skin had turned “muddy.” Many viewers accused the segment of promoting colorism and racism.
