The iconic house of Pinoy Big Brother (PBB) has closed its doors after more than two decades, as the long-running reality show prepares to relocate to a new home.
The development was confirmed by Laurenti Dyogi, ABS-CBN’s head of TV Production and Star Magic, during a farewell gathering attended by staff, hosts, and network executives, according to a report by ABS-CBN News.
“It’s time. This is the time that we officially say goodbye to the house,” Dyogi said.
He shared that while plans to relocate had long been considered, the recent collaboration with GMA Network prompted them to keep the house operational a little longer.
“We’ve sustained this for 21 years. Years back, I’ve been seeing the possibility of moving out of this property. But the collab happened with Channel 7, so [we] found good reason to keep the house,” Dyogi explained.
The lot where the PBB house stands in Quezon City has reportedly been sold, although ABS-CBN secured a lease extension to accommodate two seasons of “PBB Celebrity Collab” with GMA Network.
Business unit head Linggit Tan, alongside Dyogi, also looked back on the show’s early challenges.
The original PBB house was constructed in May 2005, with the build completed in just three months ahead of the show’s debut. Tan noted that, according to the contractor, the structure was only intended to last five years—yet it remarkably stood for 21.
“Siyempre sad, we literally built the house 2005 so talagang nakakalungkot,” Linggit said.
Hosts Robi Domingo and Bianca Gonzalez also reflected on how the show has transformed not only the lives of its housemates but also those working behind the scenes.
“Witness ‘tong bahay na ‘to sa highest of the highest and lowest of the lows. Hindi lang para sa ‘kin, para sa most of the team members ng PBB,” said Gonzalez. “Life-changing house hindi lang para sa housemates pero para sa mga nasa likod ng kamera.”
“It has produced a lot of personalities, superstars, and lots of stories for our kapamilyas,” added Domingo.
Several housemates of the previous and recent seasons have also paid tribute to the show by revisiting the house one last time.
Over the years, the iconic house has served as a temporary home to numerous Filipino stars, such as Kim Chiu, Gerald Anderson, Sam Milby, Melai Cantiveros, Joshua Garcia, and James Reid, who rose to fame through their stints as housemates across the show’s many seasons.
Dyogi assured fans that a new PBB house is already in the works, urging viewers to stay tuned for announcements regarding its location and the upcoming season.
“For the coming season, it’s good to have a new feel naman for the new housemates. We’ve decided to move it and build a new PBB house—abangan nila kung saan ‘yung new PBB house,” he said.
He also confirmed that the franchise remains active for several more years, hinting at more seasons ahead.
“We still have the formal license for a couple of more years so talagang may aabangan pa ang mga tao… malapit na ’yan, so abangan ninyo ang open auditions for the new season,” Dyogi added.
