‘Bongga Ka, ‘Day! The Annie Batungbakal Musical’ set to hit the stage after 6-year delay

Following the successful run of “Bagets: The Musical,” theatergoers can look forward to another stage production inspired by the music of iconic OPM band Hotdog: “Bongga Ka, ’Day! The Annie Batungbakal Musical.”

The upcoming show was teased on Sunday, March 22, during the final matinee performance of “Bagets: The Musical” at Newport World Resorts.

Producers presented a preview featuring live performances of Hotdog’s classic hits “Bongga Ka Day” and “Annie Batungbakal,” confirming that the new musical is slated to open in September 2026.

During the performance, a stand-in actress for the titular role appeared onstage with her identity concealed, fueling fan speculation about who would take on the lead role.

The production draws inspiration from the 1979 musical-comedy film “Annie Batungbakal,” which starred National Artist Nora Aunor.

Details about the full cast, ticket sales, and exact run dates have yet to be announced. However, Vic del Rosario Jr., head of Viva Entertainment, shared early insights in an interview with The Philippine Star.

When asked whether rising actress Atasha Muhlach would take on the lead role, he responded with a smile, “Hindi ako sure.”

Atasha’s brother, Andres, was part of “Bagets: The Musical,” where he reprised their father, Aga Muhlach’s, previous role as Adie in the hit 1984 film.

“Bongga Ka, ’Day! The Annie Batungbakal Musical” will be co-produced by Viva Entertainment, The Philippine Star, and Newport World Resorts. It was originally scheduled for a 2020 run but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
