Janine Teñoso shares backstory of hit song ‘Tingin’ with Cup of Joe

Janine Teñoso recalled how her hit song “Tingin” with OPM band Cup of Joe came to life, now nearing 300 million streams on Spotify.

In the third episode of The Philippine STAR’s On The Rise, the singer-songwriter shared that Cup of Joe vocalists Gian and Rapha first reached out to her via Instagram for the collaboration.

“Tinawagan ako ni Gian and Rapha over FaceTime, so nakikita ko sila with their guitar and all kinanta nila yung chorus ng ‘Tingin,’ wala pang verse or anything,” shared Janine.

She then wrote the second verse overnight. “Buong night ko siyang winork on, as in natapos ako 5 am,” she recalled. Three days later, they headed to Baguio to record the track, which was completed in less than two weeks.

Asked if they anticipated its success, Janine admitted: “Feeling namin hindi talaga… hanggang ngayon, it’s still in the charts. Two years yung longevity, so hindi namin talaga in-expect.”

Janine, who recently won EP of the Year at the New Hue Music Awards for her album Apat na Buwan, also spoke about the strong sense of support among OPM artists today.

“Sobrang nakakatuwa, honestly. Lahat ng artists ngayon nagtutulungan, we get to talk and connect, and lahat nagsusuportahan. It’s a good energy.”

Now nine years into her career, Janine is set to hold her first major solo concert at the New Frontier Theater on September 6, 2025.
