Kapuso star Marian Rivera has revealed the story behind her viral live performance of Rihanna’s hit song “Unfaithful,” which she referred to as her favorite meme of hers.
During a Christmas event interview, where she was accompanied by her husband and fellow Kapuso star Dingdong Dantes, Marian was asked a lighthearted question about her favorite meme of herself.
Dingdong read the question aloud: “What is your favorite meme of yourself?”
The actress, with a laugh, clarified, “Meme?” before spontaneously singing the now-iconic lyrics that Pinoy netizens know all too well: “Story of my life, searching for the right…”
The performance in question happened several years ago on GMA Network’s now-defunct noontime variety show “Party Pilipinas.”
Marian’s rendition quickly went viral, with video clips and memes resurfacing time and again across social media platforms. Netizens found humor in her cover, where she memorably slurred some of the song’s lyrics and delivered them with amusing confidence.
In the interview, Marian went on to explain the story behind the incident, sharing that the song was unexpectedly handed to her right after a taping session.
“Tawang-tawa ako nu’ng kumanta ako nu’n… Galing akong taping nu’n, sobrang puyat ako, ta’s [sabi nila] ‘eto kakantahin mo.’ Sabi ko, ‘Anu to? ‘Di ko alam ang kantang ‘to.’ ‘Rihanna daw ‘yan.’ Bahala na! Story my life… Searching for a right… Khipshy into fall on me…”
The actress couldn’t help but laugh at the memory, admitting how the moment continues to bring her joy whenever she sees it online, “Tuwing nakikita ko ‘yun, natatawa ako sa sarili ko.”
Marian took the opportunity to praise her eldest daughter, Zia Dantes, for making up for what she jokingly referred to as her own lack of singing prowess.
“Nabawi naman po ng anak ko,” she quipped, eliciting laughter from her husband and their fans.
