Jessi parts ways with agency after alleged involvement in fan assault incident

-

South Korean rapper-singer Jessi has officially parted ways with her agency, DOD, following her alleged involvement in a fan’s assault.

The agency announced the termination of their exclusive contract with Jessi on October 18, just days after she was questioned by police regarding the event.

According to The Korea Times, the controversy stemmed from a September 29 incident in Gangnam, Seoul, where an 18-year-old fan reportedly requested a photo with Jessi.

Several reports stated that the fan was met with verbal abuse and physical assault by a person standing next to Jessi. While the artist attempted to intervene and stop the altercation, she soon left the scene.

Jessi later claimed she did not know the individual responsible for the assault.

Videos of the encounter have circulated online showing Jessi with her companions and the fan.

The victim has since reportedly filed a lawsuit against Jessi and others present at the scene, citing assault and additional charges.

Jessi was summoned by the Gangnam Police Station as a suspect on October 16 for questioning, as the investigation into the matter continues.

Just two days after her police questioning, DOD released a statement confirming the end of Jessi’s contract, stating:

“After extensive discussions about her future activities, we have decided to terminate our exclusive contract with Jessi as of October 18, 2024, at her request and after careful consideration,” the agency announced as per Soompi’s report.

It added, “Although it was a short period, we are grateful to Jessi for her time with us and sincerely wish her all the best in her future endeavors.”

Jessi has not made a personal statement regarding her contract termination, but fans have expressed their support for the soloist on social media.

Jessi is known for her hit songs “ZOOM” and “NUNU NANA” and “Cold-blooded.”

She was previously a part of K-pop star Jay Park’s talent agency MORE VISION earlier this year before signing an exclusive contract with DOD.
