Anne Curtis calls attention to alleged drilling operations threatening Masungi Georeserve

It’s Showtime mainstay Anne Curtis took to social media to express her concern over the alleged drilling operations threatening Masungi Georeserve’s conservation area in Tanay.

The actress-model reposted Masungi Georeserve’s thread on her verified X page on Tuesday, Feb. 13, exposing the “new threat” that was suspected by the environmental foundation in the past.

According to Masungi Georeserve, drones spotted “four drilling rigs for a wind farm project” that were reportedly found on the southern side of the Masungi Rock Formation. Equipment and materials were also reportedly being brought as well.

“In a shocking revelation, our drone surveillance uncovered multiple drilling operations by Rizal Wind Energy Corp., backed by Singapore-based Vena Energy, aggressively breaching the pristine Masungi limestone formation,” read Masungi Georeserve’s thread post.

It continued, “Closer inspection of these images taken in late 2023 has brought to light the unsettling authorization of the Masungi Karst Conservation Area’s exploration for constructing approximately 12 colossal wind turbines.”

The operation reportedly entails “widespread road construction” which raises “significant concerns for local wildlife, particularly threatening bird and bad populations”.

Masungi Georeserve claimed that the project violates Department of Environment and National Resources (DENR) Administrative Order 33 which “strictly prohibits any commercial or industrial exploration or exploitation of the area.”

The organization made a plea to the public to join their urgent call to action by signing their petition.

“We invite you to join our urgent call to action: Demand the revocation of any permits granted to Rizal Wind Energy Corp. and halt further exploitative practices within the sanctuary. Together, we can safeguard the natural treasure of Masungi.”

To this, Anne voiced her concern about the environmental threat, saying, “I hope attention is brought to this. We really need to start prioritising what beauty we have left! Specially places that are close to the Metro. Konti na lang natirira na malapit ?.”
