Ken Mariscal was pronounced dead on arrival after being involved in a hit-and-run incident in Davao City.

The 28-year-old singer previously competed in the Kapamilya noontime show It’s Showtime’s singing competition Tawag ng Tanghalan back in 2019.

Davao-based news outlet SunStar Davao reported that the crash happened on Cabantian Road at around 2:45 AM last Sunday, July 9.

Based on the initial investigation by Buhangin Police, Ken was a passenger on a motorcycle driven by Ruben Borgonia.

The two were making their way home to Barangay Indangan and made a quick stop in front of a Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (BDRRMO) building to use the bathroom.

As Ken was disembarking the motorcycle, he lost his balance and fell down on the road.

Ruben saw a white car approaching which he tried to flag down but it did not stop and ran over the singer.

Rescuers immediately rushed Ken to Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC), but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Ken’s family has posted on his Facebook account to confirm the tragic news.

“It is with heavy hearts that we[,] the family of Mark Ken Mariscal, announce the passing of our dear son. It is so sudden that we are still in the process of accepting the fact that we can no longer be with him,” his family wrote.

“To the families, friends, colleagues and to all who have been part of Ken’s journey in this world and maybe touched by his kind soul, we can’t thank you enough for the messages of comfort and no words can express how grateful we are. We will be posting updates soon and again we thank you all.”

According to ABS-CBN News, Buhangin Police are currently investigating Ken’s case starting with the search for the hit-and-run driver of the white vehicle.

Authorities are calling on people who can provide information regarding the incident to come forward and aid in the investigation process.
